Tiara Yaktsa Cannes

On a hill above the tiny village of Théoule-sur-Mer, a 30-minute drive from Cannes, the yellow-hued Tiara Yaktsa has Moorish arches, vibrant decor and — most important — panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the sandy beaches of the Cote d’Azur.

All of the 21 guestrooms are uniquely decorated, think Moroccan-inspired touches against shades of cream and red wine; in spite of their modest size, they feel like private apartments with balconies that look out on well-manicured gardens and the water below. I was surprised not to find a tub in the bathroom, but the rain shower was lovely.

The Classic Rooms have furnished balconies with views of the sea.Even better: a dip in the easily accessible infinity pool. I’ll never forget the afternoon I spent lounging nearby on one of the Balinese-style daybeds, a flute of champagne in hand, listening to the balmy sea breeze flutter the sheer white fabric and taking in the herb-scented gardens. From there, I moved on to the beach below.

After a busy day in the sun, a white tunic is the perfect garb for a meal at L’Or Bleu, the hotel’s light-filled gastronomic restaurant, which serves a mix of Mediterranean and Asian fare, such as Thai-style sea bass. The best tables are the ones on the terrace that face the sea. The service can be a bit slow, but that’s perfectly in line with the property’s emphasis on relaxation and attention to detail.

Although this is the sort of place where travelers can happily disconnect for days on end (in fact, guests have to walk to the shops and restaurants of Théoule-sur-Mer, because there’s no taxi service), the concierge can arrange personalized outings such as visiting the boutiques of Cannes accompanied by a personal shopper, touring the perfume factories in Grasse or chartering a boat to Monaco or Saint-Tropez.
