Will be hard to find “classy” places in St Tropez … St Tropez is perfect if you are looking for party, decadence, indulgence, sex, show-off … You will find more classy ambiance in Monte Carlo, but still a lot of show-off and “nouveau riche” people, at least in the “high season” at the moment …
If you manage well you can do both in the same w-e, St-Tropez is 1h15 mns driving from Monaco. Enjoy it anyway.
St. Tropez is beautiful, relaxed and informal. Given a choice, I’d go to the Hotel de Paris in Monaco and take the long walk down the corridor leading to the thermal spa across the way.
Pick in between…..Cannes – definitely classier.
Try to visit Cannes too.
St. Tropez is more for partying and is more fun that Monte Carlo. Stay in Cannes, and drive there whenever you want.
St Tropez is more fun.

I agree and would suggest to stay in Cannes and easily travel either to Montecarlo or St.Tropez.
However, should you wish to stay in St.Tropez (Hotel Byblos is a nice hotel), there are some exclusive clubs and beaches (ie. Nikki Beach).
In Cannes itself there are few places where you can have good time (Bauli Bar, Actors) and beautiful hotels on the Criosette (Carlton or Majestic ….classic ones tough) if you wish to be in the centre of life or nearby (Cape D’Antibe) if you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere.
Stay in St. Tropez if you wanna party. i wil be there this weekend ( in new kube hotel) , give me a shout if you wanna go out.
It is only by accident, that I stumbled into this thread and as I am living (amongst others) in Monaco, I felt, that I should add a comment:…..for so many years, one is reading the same names, places, recommendations… in Monaco as well as in St.Tropez, both places over the summer season becoming real rip-offs for people who suffer from a lack of imagination, nabobs, fake beauties (their doctors’ beasts), and lots of Eastern-European prostitutes (the latter, very pretty indeed).

How can relatively young people be so boring, lacking adventurous spirit , and individualism, and go for the same so-called save places which already their (grand-) parents found “good” some 10, 20, 30 years ago? Are Nikki Beach pp. really a recommendation, or just a Taj-Mahal-must, an embarrassing tourist landmark? Is Jimmy’z in Monaco a rip-off (where only gentlemen pay), or materialized arrogance? Who knows.
We all like individualism. Why follow the crowds? There is amusement elsewhere to be found, but one has to develop and to find it oneself….then it becomes really preciou, rewarding and memorable.
